Feel Better With Deep, Restful Sleep

After a sleepless night, you’re tired, irritable, and not at your best. You’ll feel that way much of the time if you suffer from sleep apnea. This sleep disorder does a number on your health as well. Studies have linked this condition to diabetes complications, high blood pressure, strokes, heart attacks, and cardiovascular disease.

Obstructive sleep apnea is caused by frequent interruptions in breathing that happen when your airway becomes blocked during sleep. Your breathing can stop up to hundreds of times each night, depending on the severity of your condition. With treatment, your airway remains open while you sleep, using one of two methods:

  • CPAP Machine – You wear a mask over part of your face, through which you breathe in a stream of pressurized air. A CPAP is usually prescribed for more severe cases of obstructive sleep apnea. Unfortunately, many patients find this difficult to use.
  • Sleep Apnea Appliance – You can get a custom-fitted oral appliance instead for mild to moderate cases of apnea. It often resembles an athletic mouthguard. It moves your jaw forward while sleeping and helps keep your airway clear. You and your partner will both appreciate the lack of a bulky mask and noisy machine.
