So a lot of people with sleep apnea will use CPAP machines that are prescribed by their doctor. We also offer appliances that help with sleep apnea that will reposition your jaw to help open your airway. That way we can avoid using the CPAP that a lot of people dislike and most patients after they use their appliance for a couple of nights say that they’re sleeping much better.

Improve Your Sleep Quality With an Oral Appliance
Up to 18 million people in the U.S. have sleep apnea, with up to 4 million suffering from severe sleep apnea.

Doctors often recommend CPAP therapy for sleep apnea, yet 50 percent of CPAP users give up on their treatment. Wearing a mask while you sleep can be uncomfortable and irritating. That’s assuming you aren’t bothered by air pushing into your mouth or nose or by the sound of the machine.
As a comfortable alternative, we can design a custom-fitted oral appliance that you wear while you sleep. It shifts the position of your jaw slightly to keep your airway open. This allows you to:
Avoid wearing a mask
Not have your sleep disturbed by a noisy CPAP
Get the deep, healthy sleep you deserve
Stop snoring
Treat Sleep Apnea Symptoms for a Happier Life
When you have obstructive sleep apnea, your airway closes as you fall asleep. When it’s completely blocked, your body wakes you up (although you may not remember it). This can happen dozens of times every hour. Each time, your sleep cycle starts over. This means you don’t get the deep sleep you need to feel rejuvenated in the morning.
As your airway closes, it also makes your snoring louder. That’s why your significant other can’t get any sleep either. Along with chronic snoring and relationship problems, this disorder can also cause:
Dry mouth and sore throat in the mornings
Daily fatigue
Mood swings, irritability, and depression
Weight gain
Lapses in memory and concentration
Problems staying alert behind the wheel
Men, people who are overweight, and people over 40 years old have a higher risk of sleep apnea. However, it can affect anyone regardless of gender, weight, or age. Sleep apnea also has been linked to teeth grinding. We can help with that, too.
Call Kirchner Dental today at 812-913-6093 for an appointment or schedule online. Our sleep apnea treatment in Jeffersonville, IN has helped countless patients enjoy better rest and health. It can help you too!

I had a broken tooth with an exposed nerve back in December. My previous dentist got me in then scheduled me out for almost a month later for the root canal. Unfortunately I had to reschedule that for work in which it got infected again and abscessed. At this point, though my fault, the pain became unbearable and it would’ve been another couple weeks. However as soon as I got in pain again on Friday, I called Kirchner and Dr. English got me in immediately to put me on a steroid and provide me some pain relief and immediately got me in the coming Monday for a root canal. Dr. Alwan and Jensen performed my root canal and were wonderful through the whole process even though I was a baby and 100% was empathic and fast. Glad they got me in immediately, will 100% be switching to this place. Everyone was wonderful
Great service, great staff! I had been looking for a dentist for two days to pull a bad tooth with no luck and they took care of me with professionalism! Would not hesitate to recommend!
If you’re looking for a high quality dental experience, Kirchner Dental is the place to go. Their professionalism and prompt attention to the needs of their patients are just a couple of the reasons why I choose them over anyone else. In the past, I have suffered anxiety from visiting the dentist. Not with Dr. K. He takes time with each patient, answering any questions, and makes you feel safe and right at home. The office staff is outstanding too! You will feel the difference with their practice as soon as you walk in the door! Very welcoming and friendly! I highly recommend!
I had a great new patient experience at Kirchner Dental. Very thorough. I learned a little bit about myself from the hygienist. She could see wear on my teeth and my enamel starting to thin. She recommended for me to follow up with my physician to be checked for acid reflux and possibly sleep apnea. Your dental appointment is a lot more than just getting your teeth cleaned. Thank you to the Dentist for filling two of my cavities that day. Very patient staff.

Common Questions About Sleep Apnea Treatment
What is sleep apnea?+–
Obstructive sleep apnea, the most common type of sleep apnea, occurs when your air passages become temporarily blocked repeatedly while you sleep. Your tongue and other soft tissues in the back of your throat relax to the point that your airway is restricted, causing you to quit breathing for a few seconds. This cycle can repeat itself dozens of times per hour in severe sleep apnea sufferers.
Why is sleep apnea bad?+–
Sleep apnea is a serious condition because it interrupts critical airflow while sleeping. It can leave you feeling lethargic during the day and interfere with your work productivity and your personal life. In addition, sleep apnea has also been linked to several serious health conditions like high blood pressure, heart attacks, strokes, diabetes, and depression.
How is sleep apnea treated?+–
If you receive a sleep apnea diagnosis, our practice will take impressions and have a custom-fit sleep apnea appliance made for you to wear while sleeping. It will gently move your lower jaw forward to help keep your airway open. It can even reduce snoring. You’ll sleep better, feel better, and improve your overall health.
Are sleep apnea machines quiet?+–
CPAP machines do produce some noise, which can be annoying to you and your bed partner. Silence is just one of the advantages of treating sleep apnea with a mouthguard instead of a CPAP. Most people also find it easier to adjust to and more comfortable. In addition, you can easily transport a mouthguard by simply putting it into a purse or pocket.
Will sleep apnea go away?+–
Unfortunately, sleep apnea is not something that will go away on its own. You can find dramatic improvement through treatment and lifestyle changes. Weight loss, smoking cessation, and abstaining from alcohol are all beneficial in addition to sleep apnea treatment with an oral appliance here in our office.
