So, when patients are missing teeth, they not only suffer physically, but they can suffer emotionally. For example, I had a patient who had lost all of his teeth due to dry mouth from chemotherapy and radiation. So, nothing of his own fault, and he was very embarrassed of his smile. He also couldn’t tolerate traditional dentures, because where he had no saliva, his dentures were dry, and they wouldn’t stay put. He sung in his church’s choir, and he also said that, with the dentures, he couldn’t sing like he wanted to.
So we placed implants along the top and bottom of his mouth, and then secured some teeth onto it permanently. This is called an All-on-X. And the patient was so ecstatic about it. He could sing again. His face was supported. He was no longer in embarrassed. And that was really and truly such a touching moment for me, because he was so happy.
