I decided to become a dentist when I was about four years old. I used to ride a school bus for a full hour, for 10 miles. It took a whole hour. And I would pull kids’ loose teeth on the bus. So, I was like triggered right then like dentistry is what I wanted to do. From that moment, even in my elementary, like kindergarten year book, it says, “What are you going to be when you grow up?” And it says, “Dentist.” So, I never really strayed from that. I kind of thought about other things, but nothing is as good as dentistry. So glad I’m here.
The most rewarding part is seeing patients come out of pain. So many people come in with toothaches or swelling, and things like that. And a lot of times we can offer immediate relief. So, that’s very satisfying in my job.
I’ve been working on a lot of different CE. I’m really, really attracted to all things oral surgery. So, I learnt how to do implants in dental school, but since then I have also applied for or enrolled in two different CE courses for implants and extra-surgical things like soft tissue grafting and lifting the sinus, bone preservation, lots of fun things like that. And then, I also have CE course and I am licensed to do dermal Botox fillers and Kybella, which is dissolving fat. So, esthetic and surgery are my favorite things.
What I would really like to convey to new patients is that dentistry can be scary. Doesn’t have to be. I try to make these things that aren’t enjoyable at all as enjoyable as they can be. Like a lot of my patients are laughing and they’re saying, “I used to hate to go to the dentist but, now, it’s not so bad because you’re pretty funny and you make me distracted.” So, I want them to know that it doesn’t have to be an unpleasant experience.
