At Kirchner Dental, we want you athletes to stay healthy and happy enough to keep bringing your A game. That’s why it’s important to us to take a moment and recognize April as National Facial Protection Month!
Whether you’re a pro or recreational contact-sport player, we want to make sure you’re taking the proper precautions while on the field, court, or ice.
The same goes for our patients who enjoy other potentially risky activities, such as riding bikes, horses, or ATVs.
At our Jeffersonville, IN office, we create customized athletic mouthguards that can prevent unnecessary trauma in the event of a fall or collision with a fellow teammate or competitor.
Let’s check out the benefits of making sure that mouthguard is in place while you’re in action!
Mouthguards Made Just for You
Anything can happen at any time, no matter how experienced you are at your sport or activity. For some of our patients, that risk factor is part of the “fun,” but broken teeth or injuries to your lips, jaw, or tongue are most definitely never fun.
That’s why we create customized mouthguards that provide the best protection possible for you.
Here are common questions we hear from patients and our responses for you to consider:
Q: What’s Wrong with Store-Bought Mouthguards?
A: Store-bought “one-size-fits-all” mouthguards can be awkward and uncomfortable, which makes them not only less effective regarding protection but also downright distracting so you’re not focused on the game you’re playing OR the fun you’re supposed to be having.
Q: How Do I Care for My Custom Mouthguard?
A: There’s nothing to it! Just brush it with a toothbrush after each use, and only use water. Clean it with soap and water every so often, as well. Use cold or warm water only, since hot water can cause the mouthguard to warp. Let it air dry completely. That’s it! Our mouthguards can last a very long time if you follow these simple steps.
If You Have Been Injured, Kirchner Dental Is Here To Help.
Dr. Michael Kirchner and our Kirchner Dental staff are prepared to fix any dental issue you may be suffering from due to facial trauma. Some of our services include:
Emergency Dentistry – Because accidents happen that require immediate attention, we will do our best to ensure a same-day visit if you’ve run into trouble. Just call our office at 812-913-6093 (Jeffersonville) 812-884-8304 (New Albany) 502-430-3451 (St. Matthews) so we can swiftly get to work saving your smile.
Family Dentistry – Young ones also love to play rough, so we’re used to caring for kiddos who require swift and comfy dental attention. We also understand that a trip to the dentist can be scary, which is why we offer a “comfort menu” (see more below) for you and your little loved ones to consider.
Restorative Dentistry – If you have a damaged tooth, we can use our state-of-the-art CEREC machine to create a protective dental crown in just one visit. Then you can get back to eating your favorite foods, speaking normally, and generally enjoying a fully functional smile.
Tooth Replacement Options – You may have lost a tooth in the past as a result of not wearing a mouthguard or wearing an ill-fitting mouthpiece. If so, we offer dental bridges, dental implants, and other options to return your smile to normal.
Oral Surgery – If a damaged tooth sits for too long, it can lead to painful infections that may affect your overall health. We will examine your gums and any tooth that has been harmed due to impact, then determine if you require oral surgery, such as a tooth extraction.
Care and Comfort – You and your family can also count on a stress-free visit to our office. In addition to a soothing and caring staff that makes sure you’re totally at ease, we offer sedation options and patient-friendly local anesthesia to ensure you’re as comfortable and relaxed as possible while we tend to your smile.
As for the “comfort menu” mentioned above, we provide the following for all patients:
- Massage chairs
- Blankets
- Pillows
- iPad headphones
